Moustoir-Ac
Land of megaliths in the heart of the Landes de Lanvaux
In the heart of the Lanvaux moors, the beautiful wooded and hilly landscapes of Moustoir-Ac can be admired by taking numerous hiking trails, such as the GR 38.
A monastic origin
The monastic origin of the name of the commune is certain if we refer to the old known forms "Monster en Radenac", then "Mouster-Radennac", or even "Moustoir-Radenac" in 1407. However, in the 17th century the contracted form Moustoir-Ac became established.
A vast territory
Moustoir-Ac has a town centre around the town hall and the Sainte-Barbe church, and another a few kilometres further around the Kerhero chapel. You will admire various monuments there: the listed cross of the old cemetery, or the town church which is worth seeing for its 16th century remains, its sandpits and its neo-classical bell tower. The pretty fountain (1706) attached to it is located in the open field, outside the town (towards Colpo). The Kerhéro chapel is placed under the invocation of Our Lady of Seven Sorrows.
Land of megaliths
The town is full of stones and megaliths.
The Kermarquer menhir, with its 6.72 m is the highest standing menhir in Morbihan currently known. It is classified as a Historic Monument, like that of Kerara, its neighbor.
Many other atypical stones can be discovered during country walks and in particular the "mammoth" stones, emerging from primary granite terrain, the sacrificial stones in the Mené moor or the Kermorvant dolmen near the Resto manor.
