LOCMINÉ

Locminé, a town on a human scale, lively and commercial

A place for exchange and commerce since the Middle Ages

Locminé means "the place of monks" in Breton. This old name recalls that a monastic foundation is at the origin of the town. In the 7th century, monks founded a monastery there. The population gradually settled there. Two old "half-timbered" houses still offer the typical appearance of bourgeois houses (i.e. of the town) from the end of the Middle Ages. On one of them, two engraved characters symbolize, it is said, Locminé and his wife. Every Thursday morning, the market perpetuates the old tradition.

St Sauveur Church, a hymn to contemporary art

The Church of St Sauveur was rebuilt in 1975 by Abbot Laudrin, a major figure in the commune. Only the original 16th century façades have been preserved, the rest of the church being of modern design.

Near the church, you can visit the Notre Dame du Plasker chapel. Listed as a historical monument, it was rebuilt in the 16th century and has preserved a rich collection of furnishings. The St Colomban fountain, also called the white fountain, was once the subject of important pilgrimages. Its waters were reputed to cure madness and nervous illnesses.

The "little train" shapes the life and urban planning of Locminé

The station was inaugurated in 1901 while the first train connected Ploërmel to Locminé on September 1st 1902. Locminé station was a hub of Morbihan, where wagons were repaired and even manufactured. This intense activity would stop temporarily in 1947, definitively after the war.

Relaxation and outings all year round

Aire de jeux étang du Bois d'amour

The Bois d'Amour site on the road to Plumelin and the Butte of Quistinic on the road to Vannes offer a lovely setting for a walk and relaxation. The shops, activities and services of Locminé, the cinema Le Club, the Aqua'lud aquatic center, and the auditorium of la Maillette allow you to relax and go out all year round...

Finally, Locminé is the land of mallets, these small nails with octagonal heads, popularized by the famous song "les gars de Locminé".
