Billio
An authentic, peaceful and flowery village
Billio, a charming little village of 360 souls, is located a few kilometers from Guéhenno, on the road to Plumelec. The flower-filled houses offer the visitor a beautiful local-granite set, and the streets display superb old-fashioned wrought iron signs made by a local craftsman.
The origin of the town
Billio probably owes its origin to an old monastery dating from the arrival of the Bretons in Armorica. Attending the town since the 6th century, they left many village names there. However, at Billio, Gallo remains the mother tongue of the Ancients who still use it.
Thus, during your walks, you will come across villages with Breton names such as Kervallon or Kerlué and others with a Welsh consonance, such as Ville Guingamp or Grée Maréchal. This toponymic particularity attests to the cohabitation of the two languages at a certain time.
From manor to fountain...
In addition to the 19th century church Notre-Dame, you will also see manors, such as the Porte Camus, calvaries, crosses and bread ovens. The lovely 18th century "Notre Dame" fountain, also called "the good fountain", is located below the Cruguel road.
