Bignan
A place of Chouannerie and contemporary art on the uplands of the Landes de Lanvaux
Between Vannes and Pontivy, the town is located at the gates of the Landes de Lanvaux. The abundant granite and the Claie River have given the landscapes of Bignan a rugged appearance. The most beautiful sites and panoramas can be discovered trough hiking trails.
Megaliths and chouannerie
On the road to Locminé, at Kergonfalz, are the remains of a covered alley and a tumulus. At Bezo, stands a menhir in the middle of a field.
At the village of Kerdel, you can visit the birthplace of Pierre Guillemot, leader of the Chouans and right-hand man of Cadoudal.
Churches, chapels, crosses and calvaries
There are many religious monuments eand more than 50 calvaries and crosses at Bignan. The parish church, built by Abbot Noury, retains the architectural imprint of the 18th century. The Ste-Noyale chapel (16th), the chapel of the Fountains (16th) and the chapel of the Trinity (15th) are worth a detour and can be visited on request.
Kerguéhennec estate
Owned by the General Council, Kerguehennec Estate is a place of contemporary art. The Renaissance and Baroque style castle is located in the heart of a landscaped park of around a hundred hectares, which also includes a pond and an arboretum.
